IMPROVISED AND LOW COST HP GAS BOOSTERS

The junkyard dog of the Airspeed list has gotten respectable! Well. almost.

IMPROVISED AND LOW COST HP GAS BOOSTERS started out as a short guide to building the Home Made H****l, a DIY booster made using llow cost off-the-shelf HP gas and hydraulic components. While we tested it to 6000 psi, it was human-powered and slow, averaging about 1 cf a minute or so, so it is probably more suited for squeezing in some more argon into your drysuit bottle, topping off a rebreather flask, or applying a judacious overfill to your 104's, than filling big doubles from scratch.

However, since then we have continued to add material to the book, until it is three times as long as it originally was, and has grown into a pretty respectable guide to boosters in general. There are still ideas for building DIY versions (powered by hand, LP air, HP air, and hydraulics, take your pick!), along with pictures of actual boosters we, and our readers, have built, but there's now also a lot of information about basic booster theory and how they work, and coverage of the various commercial boosters. Included too are servicing tips and buying advice on Haskels, a discussion of the alternative boosters on the market, and tips and warnings on buying a used or surplus booster. And a LOT of safety warnings - boosters are tricky devils at best, and the higher the % of O2 you try to boost, the scarier they become.

So if you are looking for a booster, or just want to know what all the fuss is about, then this book is a must-have -if only because it is the only book on dive gas boosters out there!

This is a completely new book, and (with the exception of a few paragraphs about the trash bag booster) does not duplicate or rehash any of the material already found in THE OXYGEN HACKER'S COMPANION.

POTENTIAL PURCHASERS ARE REMINDED THAT THIS IS NOT A BOOK FOR THE FAINT HEARTED !

Nor is it a complete set of fool-proof, connect tab A to slot A plans to build a booster. Rather, it is a sourcebook for the technically adept experimenter who is comfortable handling HP gas. We have deliberately avoided being too specific, mostly because there are so many variations possible that it's impossible to provide detailed instructions for them all, but also to discourage anyone from trying to build one of these boosters, who lacks the necessary background and experience. If you have any questions about this, please read the fearsome disclaimer from the book before you order, and the HORROR STORIES update sheet.

Uncertain if it's for you? Order a copy and see what you think - our usual money-back-minus-post guarantee applies.
